Paynes Boatyard
This muddy little boatyard in a corner of Chichester Harbour has always been one of my favourite places to paint. It is home to all sorts of interesting half-ruinous wrecks, and also to a few going concerns. At low tide the weed lies in a green blanket on the mud. At high water neaps the boats still cannot get out. On spring tides they float, but they can only get out when the footbridge is rolled back on its rails.
