Lighthouse in Maine
Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, Mount Desert Island, Maine, USA.
Ice caps the rocks which, just a few hours earlier, were covered by the tide. The higher rocks, untouched by the sea, are orange and so look warm, and the sun is shining down - but the sky is a steely blue and although there is hardly a breath of wind the air is bitingly cold.
Maine is the coldest place I have ever been... and I did not sit and paint this picture in situ! It was done from photographs and my memory.
