El Molino Buy

A restored corn mill in the village of Alumbres, near Cartagena. (Murcia, Southern Spain.)

Unlike English and Dutch mills, Spanish windmills and wind-pumps did not have lattice-work sweeps. They were much more primitive machines, built to rather lower standards of workmanship and at far less cost. In England milling was a business in its own right, but here in Spain every peasant farmer had some kind of mill.
Being much smaller, and having lighter sails, of a lower aspect ratio, Spanish windmills are far less efficient - but they also turn in lighter winds.
