Sitges
Sitges is a holiday resort of long standing on the Costa Dorada (Spain). It lies just south of Barcelona. The church stands right by the water's edge.
I have never understood how anyone could bear to design or build a church with unpaired towers - to me they always look awkward - but the imbalance suits the style of this painting in a way that a symmetrical front would not. The cage on the top of the left-hand tower is echoed by the wire-thin fronds of the palm trees.
Cars do not generally feature in my paintings, but in this instance they are so much a part of the scene that I could not omit them. And, besides that, I was fascinated by their shadows.
