Bayleaf House
Bayleaf is a mediaeval timber-framed house which originally stood in East Sussex. In the early 1970s the land roundabout was selected for development, and the house was scheduled for demolition. When it became apparent that the building was old, and therefore of considerable interest, the council decided that it must be preserved - but not in-situ. It was carefully dismantled, and a few years later it was re-erected - at the Weald and Downland museum in West Sussex.
(Watercolour 22 x 15" / 56 x 38cm)
This painting shows the house as it may once have looked when the local big-wig - the bailiff - was in residence.
There are various detail shots available for viewing.
