Guinea Bissau
Guinea Bissau is immediately south of Senegal and directly to the north of Guinea Conakry. It is a small country, dissected and fragmented by two rivers, and is home to scarcely half a million people.
Before the white man arrived on the scene the area was divided between at least 12 separate tribes. During the colonial era their territories were claimed and governed by the Portuguese, and Portuguese became the official language.
