This grasshopper is called the Egyptian locust. Whereas most species of grasshopper live solitary lives, this one sometimes joins together with tens of thousands of his brethren and goes on the rampage, devouring every green thing in its path.
Note the needle sharp spikes on the creature's powerful back legs; these can even puncture the skin of a human.
