Spain's water consumption far exceeds its natural supply; the growing of export crops and the support of water-thirsty golf courses is possible only because the country also desalinates vast amounts of water. Drought is now worsening the problem and the future looks rather bleak. However, the Spanish are not a people who believe in looking to the future, and their "fiesta" continues unabated.
