Ship Inn
The Ship Inn is in the village of Langstone, on the shores of Chichester Harbour and at the gateway to Hayling Island. The pub stands right beside the water's edge, and right beside the bridge.
Until the bridge was built, in the 19th century, Hayling Island could only be reached by boat. Langstone was the "ferry terminal" - it probably owes its entire existence to the need for a ferry service - and the "ship" was probably a humorous allusion to the tub which carried passengers and freight across the narrow divide.
