Kids in Cape Verde

This photo was taken 13 or 14 years ago. Things have changed radically in this time, because Sal has been "discovered" by European tourists. Her roads have been doubled in width and tarmaced, her tiny capital town has sprouted restaurants and shops, and the children now wear shoes on their feet. But they don't wear such happy smiles on their faces.
