Castle Walls, Gormaz
This castle was built in about 756AD, by the Muslim conquerors of Spain. It is the oldest Muslim-Iberian citadel and the largest of this era.
It was to be almost 300 years before the native Spanish were able to reclaim this particular territory from their Muslim overlords ( and it was a further 400, and more, before, the reconquest of the Iberian peninsula was complete).
After its capture the castle of Gormaz was held, for a time, by the legendary El Cid,
