Child turning Animal Mill
This wooden beam is designed to be pulled by a mule or a horse. It operates a primitive "mill" which is used to lift water from a deep well.
Turning this particular mill was not as difficult as we had expected - the child was barely able to make it move, but she and her father together were easily able to get the thing moving at the same pace as the horse had done. However, they would clearly not have had the stamina to keep it turning for hours on end, which is what the horse formerly had to do.
