Rigging Dinghies, Bosham Buy

Members of the Bosham Sailing Club rig their dinghies on the ancient village quay. In the background, on the end of the quay, is an 18th century storehouse known as the raptackle.
Bosham is nowadays considered very quaint, but in ancient times it was a very important place. It was the favourite residence of Earl Godwine, the father of Harold I, and is depicted in the Bayeaux Tapestry.
Where these sailors rig their scows, Harold and his brothers may once have boarded their longships.
