La Hoya de Don Garcia (Noria)
This noria stands beside the Rio Segura in the hoya (or fertile plain) which once belonged to a nobleman called Garcia.
Although it is not quite as tall as La Grande (which stands about 50 metres downstream) this water-wheel is, in my opinion, far more worthwhile. La Grande is the said to be the biggest working noria in Europe - but it turns to no purpose and is in a terrible state of repair.
Meanwhile, La Hoya D. G., weeps just as hard and sheds its tears into an irrigation canal which still feeds the surrounding gardens and orchards. Since it is still used it is also kept in good repair; it leaks very little.
La Hoya Don Garcia was last rebuilt in 1951. It is said to lift 42 litres of water per second.
