Old Timbers (House)
Old Timbers is an attractive Elizabethan timber-framed house which appears to be in a very good state of repair. It stands quite close to the shores of Chichester Harbour, in the village of Nutbourne. It was almost certainly built by the lesee of the manor.
The upper storey of the house is jettied. The wattle and daub which would once have filled the spaces between the timbers has been replaced with brick, and the style of the work tends to suggest that the change was perhaps not made until the 20th century. The brickwork on the ground floor is of the modern, plain bond, and it has been white-washed. The upper storey is for the most part filled with ornamental herring-bone brickwork.
