Fried Egg Jellies 
The Spanish name for these jellyfish is huevos fritos, or fried eggs. The Latin name is Cotylhoriza tuberculata, but I call them cowpats.
I am told that these jellyfish do possess nematocysts (or stinging cells) but in my experience the sting is too mild to b felt. This fact has not saved the cowpats from man's malicious attentions. In recent years the beaches of Southern Spain have been thronged with almost as many jellyfish as tourists, and mongst the crowd are some species which can give a swimmer a really nasty sting. Thus, when the shoal turns up the human populace panics. In the name of protecting tourism, the official jellyfish patrols scoop up all of the accused - both the guilty and the innocent - and dump them in a big pit. As a result of these depredations the huevos fritos has suddenly become quite rare.
