Rhiw Church Buy

A depressingly bleak church on the Llleyn peninsula in North Wales.
This is surely the kind of sight which inspired the reverend R.S. Thomas to write such melancholy, ascetic poems - and, indeed, the gentleman was, for a long time, the vicar of the neighbouring parish of Aberdaron.

The church is dedicated to St Aelrhiw; seemingly, the village took its name from the saint - or perhpas it was vice-versa.
The rectory is adjacent to the church, just out of sight on the right-hand side of this photograph.
