Bosham Church

Bosham Church

Bosham Church is alleged to have been built by King Canute but was probably constructed on behalf of his right-hand man, Earl Godwine. Certainly, the Godwine family owned much of the land in this part of Sussex and Bosham appears to have been a favourite haunt. The Bayeaux tapestry depicts Harold Godwineson (later - and briefly - King Harold) riding to Bosham, feasting in a banqueting hall, and then entering the church.
