The Hare and Hounds (Detail)
Detail from a bi-colour ink drawing depicting the "Hare and Hounds" at Stoughton (near Chichester, Sussex).
This is a very attractive flint building with brick courses. It was probably built as a pair of cottages but has for a long time now been a very popular hostelry. One interesting feature of its interior is a modern hearth replacing the old ones which formerly served the two dwellings; the new hearth is open at either side and so provides a cosy central point to both ends of the pub.
