Altea - Old Town
Altea is a town whose design is quite inconvenient to modern man: the "streets" consist of narrow alleys which clamber up the hillside on stone steps, and so the residents are obliged to abandon their cars at the bottom.
This place is a delight to the artist. Heavy shadows sprawl across the courtyards and alleys and stamp strange shapes on the white-painted buildings; terra-cotta pots and tiles contrast hotly with the intensely blue sky. And every other house has a cactus or a vase of flowers framed in each of its windows, for the people who live here know very well that their visitors come especially to feast their eyes.
